So this is my first post, I think, ever. This is almost more intimidating than publishing my novel. Almost.
I’m dedicating my first post as a sort-of ‘what am I up to’ blog. I thought that this might help those who wish to know me a bit better understand my tastes through the media I consume. In future posts, I plan to do lists of my favorite books, movies, etc., but for now I’m focusing on what is fresh in my mind. I like to think that I have decent taste, so let’s talk about what I’ve been up to!
What am I watching?
TV: We are currently on our 4th re-watch of Parks and Rec. I think. I’ve honestly lost count at this point. I’m not sure if being from Indiana adds a little something special to this show for me, but it is a joy every time through. Having watched it a few times before, it is also the perfect background TV when I am attempting to multi-task (or single-task poorly, depending on who you ask).
Movie: The Mask of Zorro. In (re)watching The Mask of Zorro, I learned that Zorro is a bit of an inspiration for Batman, which I think is pretty cool. I’m also a sucker for a good sword-fight.
What am I reading?
The Road by Cormac McCarthy. McCarthy expertly injects a sense of sweetness to his story of a post-apocalyptic quest for survival featuring a loving father and son duo and bands of lawless cannibals, and I think that is a demonstration of his genius.
What am I listening to?
In general: Lizzo. You probably don’t know this about me yet, but, much like Tommy H. from Parks and Rec, I divide my playlists between ‘bangers’ and ‘not-a-banger’. Every song on Cuz I Love You is a banger.
For writing: The Legend of Korra soundtrack by Jeremy Zuckerman. I can’t listen to songs with lyics while I’m writing or editing, and the Legend of Korra soundtrack has been my go-to music to set the mood.
What am I playing?
Alright. Time for the gaming portion of the post. I, like my father before me, am a bit of a gamer. While my dad’s foray into gaming largely ended with the complicated N64 controller scheme, I’ve continued with the medium.
The thing is, I’m not always up with the latest games, as is evidenced by this month’s selection: 2007’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. I’m playing this for a project, and this is actually my second time through this game. It’s a little rough around the edges, but what can I say? I like a fun story.
What am I working on?
I am currently about 15% finished with my first re-write on my second novel. I’m not quite ready yet to discuss this project in depth, but more details to come soon!
Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed my first ‘getting-to-know-me’ post. Feel free to reply to this e-mail with suggestions of what you would like to see in future posts.
